Avoid Gout-Causing Foods

By now, you probably already have heard of gout and how painful and uncomfortable it really is. Just one look at all the photographs of body parts affected by gout could make you cringe and pray that it never happens to you. Swollen knees, joints, and toes are never a good thing, and they hinder you from doing simple things like kneeling or even walking.

food that causes gout

Some people think that gout is hereditary and that not everyone can possibly develop gout. It’s true that gout can run in families, but believe it or not, you yourself may be able to cause gout to arise in your body. Gout is, after all, the result of excess uric acid in the body that has crystallized and attached itself to the joints, and this uric acid is something that we take in everyday. The source? Food.

Evidently, there is quite a number of foods that cause gout. The key indicator of these is the amount of purine they contain. Purine is the substance that transforms into uric acid once our body has taken it in. All you need to figure out next is what foods cause gout. In this list are seafood like shellfish, sardines, herring, anchovies, and shrimp. Meats are also gout-causing foods, particularly parts like the liver and the kidney. Some vegetables like spinach, lentils, and asparagus also contain purine.

Naturally, all you need to do is to steer clear of these foods as much as you can. If you can’t cut them out from your diet, just reduce your intake, spacing out the number of times that you eat any of these food items. Moderation is always something that can help everyone. It won’t entirely guarantee a gout-free existence, however, but it will markedly decrease your chances of getting gout. So stick to a healthful diet and you’ll be able to avoid a large number of diseases.

Stop Pain Caused by Gout Uric Acid

Gout is probably one of the most irritating conditions anyone could ever have. Aside from its hideous appearance on your extremities, it is really very painful. Because of the pain, the person affected can’t continue doing his regular day to day activities. This will most definitely become a hindrance to whatever work you are doing, thus resulting to becoming unproductive.

But what causes gout and how does it start?

Increased levels of uric acid in the blood is what causes gout. When gout uric acid in the blood increases they turn into crystals. These uric acid crystals will soon be accumulated in joints, tendons and all the tissues surrounding that area. This will now cause swelling in the affected areas (joints, tendons, and the surrounding areas) and the person will then experience pain.

To be able to relieve pain, gout uric acid levels must be toned down. There are actually a lot of ways in which one can do this. People who have gout are prescribed with various medicines that handle the pain and keep uric acid levels down. For pain medication and other symptoms caused by gout, the most common drug that is prescribes are NSAIDs or non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, steroids, and colchicine. To handle high gout uric acid levels, allopurinol is advised by the doctor.

Of course it is always better to prevent gout from happening instead of finding ways to cure it. If you don’t want to experience the pain that gout may bring, try to avoid doing or eating stuff which could contribute to high uric acid levels and gout formation.

You can do this by improving your lifestyle. Avoid food which is high in purine. It is also advised by many experts to lower the intake of too much seafood and meat. It would also help greatly if alcohol drinking is minimized. Other ways to improve your lifestyle other than modifying your diet is through exercise. Try to start exercising. If you are not really fond of this kind of activity, maybe it would help if you could find a buddy to do this with. There are also different kinds of exercise that you could get into so you wouldn’t feel bored with the usual activities.

The most important thing to remember when handling this type of condition is really to be conscious of your gout uric acid levels. If you feel that you are prone to acquiring gout, be more conscious with the food that you eat so that you can lessen your chances of experiencing gout-related pain.

A complex system of organ systems, organs and tissues make up the human body. Within it, there are a range of metabolic and biochemical reactions taking place. These reactions produce a number of toxic substances which need to be removed in order to stay healthy.

One byproduct of the reactions taking place inside your body is uric acid. Having too much uric acid in your body causes it to store itself as crystals in various body parts, such as the knees, toes and kidneys. Should this happen to you, a range of symptoms may arise – collectively they are referred to as gout. Severe pain in your joints and parts of your skin changing color are just a couple of the symptoms that are caused by gout.

There are many gout medications for sufferers to choose from; unfortunately, serious side effects from using them are possible. Natural gout remedies have become popular because of their lack of side effects. These natural gout remedies are simple and convenient offer much the same benefits as other gout remedies.

Vegetables and their juices have substances that nullify or neutralize the effect of uric acid and convert it into a harmless substance. A mixture of carrot juice, beet juice and cucumber juice, in the ratio 3:1:1, makes for a good gout remedy. Even those with severe gout symptoms can benefit from this. About half a litre of this juice should be consumed daily for complete gout treatment.

Fresh fruit offers similar benefits. Fruits and their juices help to speed up the recovery of those suffering from gout. Gout sufferers are advised in to consume cherries in particular, as they are an effective source of neutralizing uric acid and curing gout. About twenty fresh cherries should be consumed in the early days of the disease, though later on the number can be reduced by half.

You should strictly keep away from foods which tend to increase uric acid content of the body. Fried foods, red meat and eggs are some of the main foods that you should look to stay away from. Foods that are highly processed must also be avoided by gout sufferers. As should foods which are high in fat and carbohydrates.

Don’t be put off by the simplicity of these tips. They have worked for others and they can work for you too. All you need to do is restore the chemical imbalances inside your body and, for most people, consuming the right food and drinks is the best way to do this. Try it, and your gout problems will soon be a thing of the past.

You’ll still need to show some commitment and patience though, as natural gout remedies aren’t a miracle cure. As with other things in life, you sometimes have to wait a while to reap the benefits.

by Dr. Markho Rafael

Reishi extract has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat arthritis and other forms of inflammation for over 2,000 years. Also commonly known by its Latin name as “Ganoderma,” or Chinese “Ling Zhi,” Reishi is by far the most searched medicinal mushroom on the Internet with over 200,000 searches per month. And although it may not be the panacea (“cure-all”) that some hold it to be, the fact that modern research confirms it as an inflammation modulator may help explain why it has long been heralded as such in the Orient.

Reishi frequently gets prescribed in Traditional Chinese Medicine for its analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic effects. Much recent research appears to validate this traditional use, as the majority of studies have yielded positive results. While looking through published articles on Reishi and arthritis, I found only two studies that showed inconclusive results, both of which were conducted by the same team of researchers. (1,2)

A U.S. based study conducted in 1993 showed that a water extract of Ganoderma lucidum (Reishi) exhibited “significant anti-inflammatory activity.” (4) Ten years later, an Indian research paper was published which stated that the use of Reishi extract helped decrease inflammation in acute edema by 56% and in chronic edema by 60%. (3) Using the “Article References” link on this page, you will find references to seven additional research articles that confirm Reishi extract as a powerful anti-inflammatory agent. (5,6,7,8,9,10,11)

Other Reishi studies have been performed which more directly relate to arthritis. A 2006 report by Kenneth Blum et al. provided support that clinical evidence demonstrates the effectiveness and safety of natural substances for joint health, such as glucosamine sulfate , chondroitin sulfate, and Ganoderma lucidum [Reishi]. (12)

The same year, another study summarized findings that Reishi in combination with a Chinese herbal remedy known as San-Miao-San demonstrated a positive “immunomodulatory effect” on rheumatoid arthritis. (13)

The answer as to how, precisely, Reishi extract accomplishes this “immunomodulatory effect” may have been given by another Chinese study the following year, which states that an isolated Reishi polysaccharide peptide “significantly inhibited” RASF, which is an indicator of rheumatoid arthritis. (RASF stands for “Rheumatoid Arthritis Synovial Fibroblasts.”) (14)

Five additional studies are included in the references that report positive findings between Reishi and arthritis. (15,16,17) One goes so far as to state that Reishi shows favorable results when compared to prednisone, and is free from the side effects. (18) In extension of this, a separate study also found that not only was Reishi extract free of the side effects of prednisone, it could also help balance the existing side effects of prednisolone* such as cell toxicity and proteinuria. (*Prednisolone is the active compound of prednisone. The liver breaks down prednisone and converts it to prednisolone.) (19)

In conclusion, the body of research does seem to support the use of Reishi extract in cases of arthritis. Remember that it is important to always work with a licensed medical practitioner when using any herb for medicinal purposes.

Name clarification: The Japanese name Reishi includes many closely related species. By far the most prevalent is Ganoderma lucidum (Common Reishi or Red Reishi), a species rare in the U.S. but common in South East Asia. The English common name for Ganoderma lucidum is Varnished Conk. In China, its known as Ling Zhi.

Other species frequently referred to as Reishi include: Ganoderma tsugae (Hemlock Reishi, common on Hemlocks in Eastern U.S.), Ganoderma sinense (“Black Reishi), Ganoderma resinaceum (Red Reishi), Ganoderma japonicum (Purple Reishi) and Ganoderma neo-japonicum (no common name or simply Reishi).

When there is too much uric acid in the blood, the condition known as hyperuricemia begins to happen and can trigger the painful gout.

When one has hyperuricemia for more than 2 decades due to bad lifestyle, excessive uric acid is accumulated in the body. With high levels of uric acid, it’s possible for the uric acid to crystallize into monosodium urate. These monosodium urate crystals can accumulate in the joints’ fluids leading to painful attack of gout.

Therefore, it must be essential for us to lower the uric acid levels in the body. This is to aid in forestalling the occurrence of symptoms of gout and hyperuricemia. Your doctor is very willing to help you if you are willing to cooperate. It is serious to cooperate with your physician to administer your progress with your uric acid level.

First, you need to have a blood test to diagnose the serum uric acid level. From there, a treatment can be made. At times medications will be needed to decrease your uric acid level. Furthermore, it is also critical to change certain habits that can cause gout episodes like eating too much meat, alcohol, and stress.

If you are especially obese, like if your body fat is not in scale with your height, you are at high risk with gout. In fact, you are up to four times more likely to get gout than a normal person with ideal weight. Thus, watching your weight is an essential lifestyle change as well.

Maintaining the ideal weight will also keep your blood pressure under control while decreasing your chances with a heart disease. As of now, many researches are conducted to try to identify whether heart disease, kidney disease, and hypertension are all related and triggered by excessive uric acid levels in the blood.

Gout affects millions of people worldwide. Gout is a type of rheumatic problem affecting the joints and it happens when uric acid builds up due to the excessive amount of purine in the body. Avoiding purine serves as a good method to avoid gout and is a gout cure in itself.

Uric acid can be accumulated in two ways in the body. The first is by way of eating foods which contain too many purines. The second one is when the body is unable to eliminate the excessive purine present in our system.

To keep gout attacks from happening, it is important to understand which foods to avoid for gout. Understanding this will indeed prevent gout attacks for longer intervals.

Every human being has purines inn their tissue and this compound is present in our daily diet and can be beneficial within the right amounts. In all cases concerning gout, foods rich in purine must be avoided. Purine rich foods are mussels, alcoholic drinks, dried beans and peas. Meats, kidneys, liver and other organs are also rich in purine. These foods will trigger an attack. Even those who don’t yet experience gout but have a diet very rich in purine especially high in meat can put themselves at risk of getting gout very soon.

When gout occurs, most patients observe that it tends to start in the big toe and gradually affect the other joints including the elbows, knees, ankles, and so on.

The pain associated with the gout attack is due to the crystals of uric acid produced in the joints. The crystals are accumulated in the joints’ fluids and this can sometimes cause some swelling and pain particularly when the joints are moved. The sufferer is then left not able to walk while in extreme pain. With this in mind, it is therefore very important to recognize the fact that the mere understanding of which foods to avoid is already a great way to avoid and cure gout.

Allopurinol for Gout Patients

Gout, perhaps, is one of the most debilitating diseases that can affect anyone at any place and at any given time. Although gout attacks are often reported to occur in the middle of the night, a gout patient can feel a sudden rush of pain in the affected area – usually the big toe – at practically any time of the day. Aside from the big toe, other joints can also be affected by gout and these include the ankles, knees, fingers, wrists, and elbows. There is a significant number of Americans who suffer from this dreadful disease and over the years, many types of treatment have been developed. Such remedies include allopurinol gout treatments.

This debilitating disease has often been associated with the inability of the body to properly process uric acid. There are some cases wherein gout is inherited and there are those wherein it has developed due to extremely high levels of uric acid in the bloodstream. The latter normally occurs when a patient has an excessive intake of purine-rich foods and alcohol. With high levels of uric acid, there is always a threat of developing uric acid crystal deposits in and around the joints that become the root of gout attacks. Several gout remedies are available including drugs prescribed by doctors and natural treatments. Doctors typically prescribe acetaminophen or analgesic painkillers, NSAIDs, colchicines, corticosteroids, probenecid, febuxostat, losartan, fenofibrate, and allopurinol for gout patients.

Allopurinol acute gout treatments have become one of the most popular forms of remedies because they have proven to be effective. Many doctors prescribe allopurinol acute gout treatments because they are effective not only in treating but also in preventing gout attacks. Allopurinol gout attack remedies work by blocking the production of uric acid.

Doctors do not only prescribe allopurinol in acute gout cases. This drug also helps in managing high levels of uric acid caused by many cancer medications. It can also help in treating kidney stones. There are some cases wherein doctors may need to closely observe patients when taking this drug. Although taking allopurinol during gout attack periods can help a lot in alleviating pain, there are certain levels of risk involved when patients are taking diuretics, diabinese, immunosuppressants, and other gout medications at the same time.

In the pain management world, allopurinol and gout remain to be popular. While more and more patients suffer from this dreadful disease everyday, doctors will continue to prescribe allopurinol and acute gout medications to help ease the pain associated with this debilitating disease.

Can You Treat Gout With Baking Soda?

People suffering from gout will no doubt be ready to try any possible remedy they hear that could ease their suffering or completely cure them of gout altogether. There are many treatments and supplements touted to eliminate gout for good, but of course, if all of them work, then practically nobody would be suffering from gout on a long-term basis anymore. It is always best to take a good hard look at the suggested treatments and do some research on how effective they really are.

One of the wondrous substances said to be powerful in the fight against gout is baking soda. Yes, good old baking soda, which practically everyone has in his or her cupboards. “Baking soda as a gout cure, though?” you are probably asking right now. “But how does it work?”

Gout takes place when there is a high level of uric acid in the body. You can avoid having a high level of uric acid by taking the right medication and also by modifying your diet so you no longer consume any food items that are high in purine, which produce uric acid. Gout is also affected by the amount of acid and alkaline in the body. As you’ve probably learned back in science class, a pH level below 7 means it is acidic while a pH level higher than 7 is alkalinic. When your body’s pH level falls, there is a higher risk of you developing gout because the uric acid in your body becomes less soluble. A higher pH level, on the other hand, dissolves existing uric acid crystals and prevents any uric acid from crystallizing.

Baking soda plays a role in curing gout because it is an alkalizing agent, and the best part is that it is affordable and readily available. You can take this directly mixed with water; half a teaspoon stirred in six fluid ounces of water should be sufficient enough. As another alternative, you can also buy empty gel capsules and pour baking soda into each one, taking it as you would any vitamin or supplement.

Remember that baking soda can have some side effects; its high sodium content will require you to cut salt from your diet while you’re taking it, and you might experience some dizziness, weakness, and loss of appetite, plus you have to contend with baking soda’s unpleasant flavor. Don’t forget to consult your physician first if you will be taking baking soda. It is still not widely accepted in the medical world and moreover, it should not be your only solution against gout.
