GOUT DIET

Dealing with gout and managing the pain that it brings the right way is very much dependent on the gout diet that one is on. It has already been established that diets that are high in protein and high in purine increase the risk of anybody to have gout, which is a type of arthritis that is manifested when there is a high concentration of uric acid in the body to the point of forming crystals in the joints, tendons, and the surrounding tissues which, then, inevitably results to inflammation and pain which can sometimes be severe and debilitating. There are a lot of gout diets that have been formulated by different entities, but which diet for gout is the most effective?

It is an established fact that about fifty percent of people who are suffering from gouty arthritis have acquired the disease due to ingesting the wrong types of food, and since this disease is being caused by the existence of high levels of uric acid in the body, diets for gout should generally not contain a lot of uric acid. As a rule of thumb on diet for gout sufferers, it should ban foods that are rich in purine since they are the ones that contribute to the concentration of high levels of uric acid in the body.

There really is no specific diet to prevent gout  that is being followed as a standard. What physicians will be able to recommend to people who are suffering from gout are the following dietary tips:

  1. Food that are rich in purine should be avoided until such time that the disease is declared cured by the doctor. These include all red meats, beans, poultry, fish eggs, shellfish, peas, scallops, and alcohol.
  2. You should also avoid eating asparagus, oatmeal, mushrooms, tripe, cauliflower, and soy.
  3. You should eat foods that are able to neutralize the uric acid in the body or at least are low in purine, like blueberries, cherries, grapes, strawberries, and bananas.
  4. You should eat plenty of tomatoes, celery, parsley, kale, cabbage, and green leafy vegetables.
  5. Foods that are rich in Vitamin C are also found to be very helpful for people who are suffering from gout.
  6. To help flush the uric acid from the body, you should also drink plenty of water.

A low purine diet for gout is the best remedy for people who are suffering from gouty arthritis. If you are suffering from it, you should always have your gout diet food ready in order to help you recover from the debilitating disease.
